Carnival...

Swimming carnival that is.

Today was the swimming sports for grades 4, 5 & 6. And they were lucky with the day, not a cloud in the sky & nice & warm, not too hot (tomorrows forecast of 44 with strong northerly winds would have really spoiled it)

This is what you do when you are bored with waiting for your turn...you wrap yourself up in the banner (that says GO BRAESIDE!)

Erin is not a 'formal' swimmer, she is confident & capable in the water but does not have perfect technique or even know all the strokes.
So she competed in the novelty event 'tunnel ball' & had a blast & in the process earned a few points for her house.

Then she was in the 50 metre backstroke!!!
Vanessa had taught her last night how to do backstroke in their pool so she a bit of an idea what she was meant to do. First attempts looked somewhat like breast stroke on her back...amusing but not very productive.
She has really grown lately & while she was waiting for her turn she looked even taller.

Then she was off & did a very good impression of someone who knew how to do backstroke. I had pumped her up & told her to 'do her best' & to 'keep going until the end'.

I was so proud of her as she kept going, almost kept up to the other girls, & came a very respectable 7th (of 8). She really surprised me & was thrilled with herself as well.

With all their efforts Braeside still came 4th but they had a great day & I was pleased I was able to atttend, I don't always get to things that I would like to because of work committments. I can feel a distinct blue & yellow layout coming on!
